The kitchen has been temporarily taken over as a finishing room. I used a cherry stain to even out the wood colors. The construction grade posts had a very white look (as you can see in the round holes in the foreground for the bed bolts). The side boards were clear fir and had much more of a honey complexion before staining. Over the stain I used a poly tung oil from Minwax. It turned out nicely with a satin finish and is quite a bit harder than natural tung oil (an advantage in a pine piece). Not shown, the walnut head board which is shaped as a low triangle.
